Biography
James Valente Banta is a Filipino-American painter and mixed media artist who has exhibited widely in Italy and his native New York.
My artwork is a personal, visual travelogue informed by geography, politics, and popular culture. In my mixed media works, I often use slides as repetitive collage elements that connect different subjects and represent memory “cells.”
I majored in Art History and completed a minor in Studio Art at Connecticut College. From 1991-1992, I studied at Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy. After college, I earned a degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania. I now live in Washington, DC.
